Our Genesis
In recent years, a small group of citizens have engaged in conversations exploring strategies for how to make Crawford County a more attractive place to live and work. This effort has now developed into a large grassroots movement that involves both the labor force and leadership from some of the largest employers in the county. This group visited communities that are vibrant and growing and found three things that all these communities held in common:
- Residents had access to an excellent K-12 educational system
- Residents had access to quality comprehensive health care
- Residents of all ages had opportunities to engage sport and recreational activities
Nearly all stakeholders that were surveyed believe that Crawford County has an excellent education and health care system, but widely reported a lack of opportunities for lifelong participation in sport and recreational activities. To address this critical need, a new non-profit organization (CCRC) has been established to bring a large general-purpose sport and recreation complex to Crawford County. Our efforts have been met with a groundswell of support from residents and local employers who are ready to partner with us to bring a new recreation center to Crawford County.
